Pollution doesn’t only affect human health directly. It also has a tremendous impact on the natural environment and the organisms that inhabit it. This is especially true for endangered and threatened species that rely heavily upon specialized environments or lie high upon the food chain. Whether as a consequence of habitat destruction, direct poisoning that kills outright or the invasion of invasive species, pollution is directly or indirectly responsible for exterminating and creating endangered species.

By the onset of the 21st century, there were no parts of the Earth free from some type of chemical pollution. Furthermore, the threat posed by atmospheric pollution and climate change threatens to degrade and destroy habitats for creatures from polar bears to plankton.

Were that not enough, these threats tend to multiply. Amphibians are one example: pesticide poisoning of the water weakened their natural immunity to fungus that has already wiped out several species and critically endangered many others.

Pollution is found not only in the natural environment, but also in your own home and work, regardless of where you live or what you do for a living. But how does one gage their own personal exposure to these pollutants and toxins?

The only way to quantify your exposure to known toxins is to have a wide-spectrum blood test done. This has been done for people who suffer cases of acute exposure as well as by journalists investigating the pervasiveness of chemical exposure. However, these tests are very expensive – more than $10,000 in 2005 dollars as reported by National Geographic.

What such tests don’t tell you is how these chemical interact together in your body, since no one actually knows. You can, however, get a general idea of the sources of contamination by taking stock of all the places where you encounter pollution, including:

* air pollution
* water pollution
* soil pollution
* food residues
* bio-accumulated toxins
* fragrances, additives and other chemical additives
* industrial waste
* pharmaceutical drugs

Myths and legends are associated with many areas. For New Jersey there’s the Jersey Devil. The people in the area are proud of it rather than afraid. The local hockey team is even named for this cryptic creature.

Sometimes it’s called the Leeds Devil, and goes back to the Native Americans. The Indian name for the area was Place of the Dragon, and Swedish explorers later named it Drake Kill. However, a 1735 story is what most people in New Jersey believed to be the origins of this beast. A woman called Mother Leeds claimed her husband was the devil, and gave birth to 12 children. Her 13th child, she said, would be a devil. That 13th child was born a normal baby, but quickly changed form. It developed hooves and wings, attacked the midwife, then escaped through the chimney. Five years later a priest exercised the demon, and so the creature was not seen for another hundred years.

A woman named Deborah Leeds could be this Mother Leeds. Her husband listed 12 children in his will. That meshes with the story that the 13th child was the devil. Some people, however, think it’s all a tall tale. People who didn’t want to be found escaped to the Pine Barrens. They gathered in groups called pineys. They eventually became the pine robbers, plain bandits. It was natural to imagine beasts and demons arising from this area. The bandits weren’t nice people.

The Jersey Devil can even be a funny story. Tom Brown Jr. often spent time in the wilderness. People who met him thought they had seen the Jersey Devil. He used a complete body mud covering to keep mosquitoes off himself. Seems like the mud worked better to repel people than bugs.

It could be that the Jersey Devil is something out of nature. It could be a creature with wings and hooves. Others hold that it is the sand hill crane, a native bird with a 7 foot wingspan.

Jersey Devil

Whatever it is the Jersey Devil remains an integral part of the New Jersey mythology. Have some fun in New Jersey by hunting for it.

Have you heard that old expression, “He could make a silk purse from a sow’s ear?”

If you haven’t, my apologies, it’s kind of a weird expression. But it does make a point, at least in regards to this article. And that point is…if you’re good at your craft, you can take the most over used situation and make it seem new again.

When I was a kid I had a poster hanging on a wall in my room. It was one of many to be sure. But this particular poster was one of my favorites. It was a picture of the Nobel Prize winning physicist, Albert Einstein. His elderly head full of thick white hair, was in complete disarray. The caption under the picture went something like this…Hair, it’s not the style that counts, it’s what’s under it. From a writers perspective, the caption could read something like this…Writing, it’s not the words you use, it’s how you use them.

Yes, there is power in the pen. A quote out of the Bible, from the book of proverbs states, “The written word is more powerful than any physical weapon.” The more modern translation, and the one most of us are familiar with states, “The pen is mightier than the sword.”

So what’s my point in all of this? My point is simple. It doesn’t matter if a thing has been written about a thousand times before, you can still use words to make that tired old story seem new and refreshing.

I’ll use a real world example to make my point. Let’s take a look at some short stories written by published authors and short stories written by amateur writers. Yes, these are western short stories. Not a real popular genre, but that’s my point. A person can take any genre, story or situation, no matter how many times it’s been written about, and with the power of the dynamic pen, make it seem new again.

The short stories written by the published author, Tom Sheehan, on the site you just went to or will go to, is a perfect example of what can be done with words. Tom Sheehan knows his craft. He has learned how to take an ordinary situation that has been written about a thousand times and write it out in a fresh new way. He not only writes well in the western genre, but also in poetry, and other genre as well. How does he do that? He understands words and he knows how to use them to his advantage.

This is something we all should strive for. If you write column’s, writing well will bring you more readers, and if your ultimate goal is to sell column’s for profit, you have to learn how to write well. After all, if the written word is indeed more powerful than any physical weapon, your very survival depends on it.

Yet, there are serious questions about geothermal energy development. It has been named the ‘poor cousin’ of renewable energy: likely because it is mining a finite resource and there is the little issue of causing earthquakes . Geothermal energy provides significant benefits in terms of improved air quality, increased diversity in electric energy sources, local and state revenues, and employment. Still, geothermal energy development in California faces a number of impediments. Finally, innovative development methods of solar energy in deep geothermal energy will be discussed and examples and experiences from the field will also be presented.

Reyka Vodka is the only distillery in the world that uses Geothermal Energy (a 100% clean energy), the steam drawn from local Icelandic hot springs. All the houses in the village of Borgarnes where the distillery is located are heated with geothermal water, and the CO2 levels in the area are actually falling. Put simply, geothermal energy is using the internal heat of earth energy to derive usable energy to create electricity, generate hot water or heat buildings. With an increasing public awareness about the US dependence on foreign oil, the potential of global warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions, and tightening environmental regulations, geothermal energy may have a prominent place in the energy future of this country. In future, the geothermal energy would be efficiently used instead of other forms of energy. The reason is it is a renewable form of energy that is not only clean but also could supply continuous electrical power.

Geothermal energy is considered to be a clean, reliable source of energy. While the overall costs of accessing geothermal power are higher than many fossil fuels, the costs continue to decline as the technology improves. The current production of geothermal energy from all uses places third among renewables, following hydroelectricity and biomass, and ahead of solar and wind. Despite these impressive statistics, the current level of geothermal use pales in comparison to its potential wind energy. Geothermal energy involves the use of heat from beneath the surface of the Earth for energy — for applications ranging from heating and cooling, to the generation of electric power. Although the country of Iceland is well known for its use of geothermal energy, the state of California is actually the planet’s biggest geothermal power producer — with 13,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity generated last year.

Montana has the potential to develop significant new sources of geothermal energy. As President Bush recently noted, increasing the domestic sources of clean energy is one of the most critical problems facing our nation. Geothermal energy is considered a renewable energy resource. Per capita figures expressed per 100,000 population. I set out to try to learn a little bit more about geothermal energy . After compiling some statistics I wasn’t sure what to do next.

Cash Jobs in Online Freelance Writing

The economy just isn’t too good right now and many of you are looking for ways to make some side cash to make your monthly bills. One of the best ways to do that is to earn money freelance writing, editing or designing. The problem is that most of you think you should get free access to freelance jobs, and that is just not the case. Follow along…

As someone who makes nearly $1,200 per month writing freelance articles, I can tell you that there is no “free” place to find cash jobs in freelance. I don’t care what people tell you, there is no free ride when it comes to getting freelance writing and editing jobs.

The reason for this is simple: The business that wants your freelance help is willing to pay a service to list their available job. In turn, the service charges you, the freelancer, a fee to get a look at, and apply for these jobs. The fact that both you and the employer are paying to use the service, helps to increase the level of quality on both sides.

If the business pays to list their freelance cash job, you must pay to get access to it. This ensures quality and seriousness all the way around. Remember, anything that is free is taken for granted or taken advantage of.

In addition, if I really wanted to get freelance work done that I didn’t so much care about quality, I’d just hire someone in India or China to produce work writing in “Engrish.” But when I want quality, I go American and I pay for it.

Bottom line with online freelance jobs for Americans: If you want to be a quality freelancer and get paid for it, you will have to pay a small membership fee in order to have access to the jobs. Think of it like buying a newspaper and finding the job listings in it. You had to pay for the paper, and the employers had to pay for the listing. Same thing.

With that in mind, there is really only one place that I recommend my readers go to for freelance writing opportunities and that is Go Freelance. They have the best listings available and the sign up to get access is less than $10.

If you are serious about earning cash on the side doing freelance work, Sign Up For Go Freelance Here.

People often hear about the desert in stories that relate the harsh living conditions of those areas. Then there were the Desert Divas. It was a prostitution ring in Arizona that became famous when police put the finger on them in 2008.

Desert Divas

Paul Nichta was the brains behind the Desert Divas. There were a number of websites that make up this ring. Some of them were Desert Divas, AZ Confidential, Hips Tour and Escorts in Action. The ring was widespread, reaching as far as New Mexico and Pennsylvania. The ring really had no official name, but because it was based in the desert city of Phoenix, the name Desert Divas from one of the web sites became the one most used by the media and police.

It holds many records. Desert Divas was part of the biggest prostitution investigation in the history of the state of Arizona. Charges were brought against more than 50 individuals. As a result of this sting, three homes, a motorcycle, and eight additional vehicles will be sold at auction. Speaking about money, most of the escorts in this ring earned between $2,000 and $15,000 a night. That larger amount was possible in the form of tips.

The Desert Divas girls weren’t the usual suspects when you think about prostitutes. The age range was 18 to 40 years old. It seemed women from all walks of life became in the activities of this business which included escort services, dating services, pornography and live web cameras via their various web sites. Some of the websites included pay-per-view live sex action.

It was September before three of the owners were indicted, including Paul. Some charges were filed in Arizona, while some were filed in New Mexico. Charges included racketeering, which is nothing more than the operation of an illegal business, in this case prostitution. A Lot of the women were initially attracted through ads placed in college newspapers. There was a kind of progressive education system that went on for the girls – 101 was web cams, 201 was pornography, and graduate courses were escorting.

There’s another Desert Diva out there. A woman from Arizona has begun a service touting herself as the Desert Diva Assistant, a virtual personal assistant that conducts a variety of business tasks. She was caught up in the prostitution situation when people confused her name and web site with the now famous case. She received crank e-mails and phone calls, including from some lawyers claiming she had stolen a cat.

Desert Divas

The world gets weirder and weirder. Desert Divas, the famous desert prostitution ring, proves it.

My dreams came true this past Christmas. Santa brought me a coffee brewing station, and a 52” plasma TV; just in time for the NFL playoffs! There is nothing better than sitting back with a cup of gourmet coffee in front of your new high def television. But as I learned, when it comes to putting together a home theater display, there are many more options than just the size of the TV.

There are several considerations or rules of thumb when it comes to choosing a TV, and the relative size of the viewing area is the first. The rule is that you will want on average around 5-and-a-half inches of diagonal screen width for every foot away from the monitor you will be seated. The rule comes in at 5 inches per foot for basic signaled picture, and 6 inches per foot if you are watching in high definition.

Keep in mind, however, that this is just a guide. When it comes to the size of the TV, general exceptions should be made when the set will be placed in two story great rooms or rooms with vaulted ceilings. These situations might actually call for a larger television, especially if you plan to mount it up higher. On the flip side, rooms located in basements or with drop-ceilings might actually be better suited for a smaller set. You really must consider all of these factors when selecting the television that will best suit your needs and wants.

The next part of choosing your TV involves the type or kind of set you purchase. Now, I am going to assume that most of you are not going to be buying an old-fashioned knob and tube set, or even a projection TV. The prices of high def sets have come down in recent years, making them accessible to just about anyone.

You will find that LCD sets are slightly cheaper than plasma overall. However, LCD televisions may not be your best choice if you or your guests will be viewing from anywhere other than directly in front of the set itself. In other words, LCD TVs don’t look good from the side. In addition to this, if your TV is in a room that is filled with a lot of bright sunlight, an LCD may not be the best choice either.

On another note, plasma televisions are a little more fragile and may experience problems over a shorter period of time. If you buy a plasma like I did, always purchase the extended warranty just in case.

Finally, you need to look at the overall function of the set. In other words, will this be your main TV set for big events like the Superbowl, or a kitchen mounted set for you to watch while you fix your morning coffee? The reason this is important is because of the way you may need to work out your budget. Obviously, sports viewing needs to be crisp and clear, and that means spending a little more money!

I hope these simple ideas will help you as you look for that dream set over the next few weeks. Trust me, your coffee will taste a whole lot better too! Ha!

Have you heard about this new technology news that you can now run car on water? If you have, chances are, the first thought that will crawl up your brain is that this is not possible. The simple truth to your rationale is, water can’t be burned, right? Well, here’s another uncomplicated truth: water fuel conversion technology does exist and is in fact no new and, yes, car driver, you can benefit from it. If you do a little investigation, you will find that the technology can transform your car into one that will run on water and gasoline and potentially double your car’s MPG. So, you want to educate yourself? Would you like to learn how to convert your car to run on water?

Actually, the process is very simple and you just need to buy some things first. If you think that water can’t be burned, you have to remember that water is the greatest conductor for electricity, right? Water is electrically-charged through a process by the name of electrolysis. Electrolysis occurs when an electric current is passed through water (the chemical name being H2O and if you’re not convince yet, try touching an open wire with bare hands while standing on a wet ground). Anyway, electrolysis can cause hydrogen and oxygen to to divide and reconstructed into a powerful amalgam known as HHO gas or hydroxy. This gas is then introduced through the airflow intake into the engine combustion chamber where it blends with gasoline. What the HHO gas does is to greatly enhance the combustion rate of gasoline, so that you get far more MPG – and it can be a remedy for your finances as well. So, that means, it’s not really totally water that you use but you also need a little fuel to do that little “firing-up” job, right? Right and that’s how you can run your car on water. Now, you have the idea but if still don’t get it, go back from the top.

However, this kind of technological breakthrough is commonly receiving the wrong impression, ergo, some even thought of it as a prank. But the fact of the matter is, you’re not actually replacing gasoline with water 100% but you do hope you can and who else don’t? So, you are not replacing gasoline but rather, it is HHO or hydroxyl that is produced from water that helps to enhance fuel economy. This is a feasible and real technology that has been used since a century ago in torches, lamps and high-heat kilns but it is only now that this technology is being shared all over the world. And since there is a worldwide fuel price increase, it is timely that everybody should really learn how how to make a car run on water. So, the first thing you need to do is to learn how to mount a water fuel conversion kit and where can you find one? Before that, however, the best question to ask right now is, where can you find a book or any learning tool that can help you learn how? As always, the best place to go to find the best sources is online.

As of this time, there seems to be a steady reduction of oil prices in the world market. The news in the morning papers read that the price per barrel is almost $50 as compared to several months ago when a barrel of oil costs more than $100. The point is, if you take a look at it, there is a possibility that the oil price might jump up again. Remember the news report that has gone out months ago about a possibility of more than $200 per barrel in two years’ time? What if you already have the knowledge on how to run car on water? Do you think it will help you and eliminate all the financially worries? So, right now, it’s best that you should try to find the right source on how to run car on water.

Over a long period of time, non-smokers had to deal with the effect of cigarette smokes on their health despite not being first-hand smokers. Indeed, when it is your health that is put on the line, it becomes a serious issue.

However, there are also quite a few things that non-smokers are to be thankful to smokers for. One of them is the use of Cigarette Cases. While these items are created specifically for storing cigarettes and keeping them from folding, they have several other serviceable uses as well, especially for non-smokers. Plus, they come in stylish cases, making it the perfect tool device for fashion-conscious individuals.

What Are They Made Of?

Before exploring the many uses you can make up with Cigarette Cases, first it is important for you to know how it is made. It is made up of metal and hinged lids. The type of material used in making them differs greatly but are typically made of gold, silver, brass, leather, chrome, aluminum, canvas, brass, plastic, and so much more.

As the needs and demands of those who use it vary, so does the design and materials used in making them. In terms of designing the case, you can choose from several contemporary designs that are available. But if you want to personalize the design of the case to suit specifically to your own personality, then customization is possible.

As for the size, they can vary as well. But mostly are sized in such a way that they can be easily stored in small pockets on your bag.

Several Uses of Cigarette Cases

These cases are no longer just restricted to storing cigarette sticks since it has developed into a multi-purpose storing case. How many times have you experienced bringing with you tiny devices and end up losing them? Because of their tiny size, they can prove to be a nuisance to carry along.

Thus, a cigarette case provides the most suitable storing device for these items. It can consist of several things such as compact and flash cards, USB devices, coins, credit cards, purses or tiny wallet, ID, and so much more. These are things that you typically bring with you when you leave the house, most of them sensitive devices.

Since cigarette cases are usually made up of metal, you can prevent bending or damaging any of these things once they are safely stored inside the case. Thus, this is a practical tool to have with you every single day – yes, even for non-smokers!

Its easy to find and download a free podcast or video blog post. The best way to find free podcasts is probably to check a podcast directory. A podcast directory is a listing of many, sometimes thousands of different podcasts. The podcast directory will usually organize the podcasts by topic and genre, making it easy to find the type of podcast that is sought. In addition, podcast directories often allow the visitors to comment on the podcasts listed, and provide a list of the favorite podcasts on the site, making it easy for users to find the best podcasts available. These podcast directories can be used to browse through, introducing users to many different podcasts they otherwise would not have found.

Once a podcast has been found that interests the user, it is necessary to download the free podcast. The vast majority of podcasts will be free, but there will be a few that may cost a small amount of money. The process to subscribe to and download the podcasts is the same in either case. First, a podcast client needs to be found and installed. There are many free podast clients available, all providing a slightly different user interface and range of options. They come with many different names, such as Podscape, or Nimiq, and searching for ‘free podcast client’ or something like it will turn up many possibilities. When the podcast client has been installed, inputting the feed address will allow the podcast to be downloaded. The podcast client will check the address given for a small, machine readable file called an RSS file. This file will contain information about the podcasts, perhaps some text about the individual episodes, as well as the location of the episode file. Once the podcast client has been located the file referred to in the RSS feed, it will be downloaded and stored on the users computer until the want to view it.

Sometimes, of course, access to a personal computer is not available, but it is still necessary to check a certain podcast. Fortunately, many podcast directories offer built in podcast readers in the site. Not only do they often show each recent episode that is available, they may also offer a way to view or listen to those podcast episodes from within the site. By using the viewer contained within the site, it is no longer necessary to even download the podcast episodes. However, the ability to move and share the episodes after downloading is one of the wonderful things about podcasting. The files can be placed on almost and media player, ranging from iPods to the new Play Station Portable. This flexibility is one of the reasons podcasts have succeeded, despite other technologies like streaming music and video. The desire of consumers to have control over technology cannot be over estimated.
Podcasts are available on all subjects from HGH information to sciatica.
